Molas Pass, Hiking, and Silverton

Clearly we arrived at the peak of their fall color season. We didn’t fully realize this was the case until we went on a hike about halfway-ish between Durango and Silverton. The drive itself was stunning. The hike was going around Molas Lake, but it seems it connects to the Colorado Trail (which traverses the state) and we took an accidental and fortunate turn onto that trail. We found a waterfall and views that left us gobsmacked. I’ll let the photos do the talking.

After the hike we drove on to Silverton. We were quite pooped out and the dog we were caring for was a little uncomfortable around some crowded areas. Clearly the train from Durango drops off a pulse of tourists who walk the main street of shops and restaurants. Our goal was coffee and a snack which Trev grabbed while I walked the dog on a very quiet back street. We found our way to an odd little river crossing and park on the north side for a short break and headed back out of town.

Gail

I’m one lucky duck, and I know it. I’m grateful everyday for my husband and this life we have created together. My first career as an environmental educator was rooted to place, understandably. Changing to remote technical support has given me flexibility. It also has reminded me that I’m a damn good teacher and problem solver, and enjoy working with computer software. The fact that we both work remotely has opened up so many options for travel. Away from my day job, I indulge in gardening in the summer and weaving all year round.
