Boy, if ever there was a fortune cookie that fit the bill…. This little gem was mine after we had some great Chinese takeout with Trev’s parents in Connecticut. We always have such a great visit there, whether it is cocktails and chatting, walks or hikes, admiring her garden, great meals (my mother-in-law is a super cook), or a love/hate game of wizard.

The morning we started heading west from Connecticut, in a way, really felt like the start to this roadtrip. The first stop was Scranton, actually. The trick about this traveling while working thing is to try and do the big drives on weekends and holidays and land somewhere for normal workdays. So why Scranton? Coworking space.

This is the third time we’ve found a place that offers daypasses. Another great experience with great coffee included, quiet, uncrowded space, and a funny reminder that many places have unisex bathrooms. We almost wished we could have stayed in Scranton as they were preparing for a big Italian festival that evening. But we wanted to make use of daylight and good weather and drove on to our hotel in central Pennsylvania.

Our second day on the road, our destination was Terre Haute, Indiana. On these road trips we try to break up days evenly and can do about 550 – 600 miles a day if needed. We also look for hotels with pretty good reviews and decent prices – and found one two blocks away from Indiana State University. They are known as the Sycamoes, hence the leaf. (I’m a plant nerd.)

It was surprisingly hot here, as it seems we wandered into another of the heat domes plaguing the country this year. We ventured out in the early evening to walk around campus. We have walked other campuses before. Notre Dame, Belmont, Vanderbilt, and Penn come to mind. Always nice to see the architecture, art, and trees. You never know what you might find – and for me, surprisingly, it was a praying mantis on a sunflower. Good omen indeed.
