Wide Open Spaces

We left Manhattan, Kansas, early in the morning. Our ultimate destination was Colorado Springs, but there were important stops ahead. We had really hot weather in Manhattan while were we there. Seemed a front was moving in that morning because as we left, what a show. For those underneath the beast of a storm we watched I’m sure it might have been a bit of a nail-biter. But at our distance, with the sun coming up, it was one of the most beautiful sights in the sky we have seen. We actually pulled over at one point to get better photos and just take a few minutes to appreciate mother nature.

As it happened, we completely skirted the storm. As the day went on, we were treated to incredible wide open spaces and a sky full of gorgeous clouds. Time to get out those watercolors and have some fun.

I actually restrained myself on the cloud posts. I have soooo many more. Kansas surprised us with rolling hills, the Flint hills, lots of farm land full of corn, sorghum (Milo), soybeans, and maybe millet. Someone should create a road trip book to help identify crops along the way. A beautiful state with friendly people.

I’m one lucky duck, and I know it. I’m grateful everyday for my husband and this life we have created together. My first career as an environmental educator was rooted to place, understandably. Changing to remote technical support has given me flexibility. It also has reminded me that I’m a damn good teacher and problem solver, and enjoy working with computer software. The fact that we both work remotely has opened up so many options for travel. Away from my day job, I indulge in gardening in the summer and weaving all year round.
